Carclew’s School Program

Carclew is Australia’s largest multi-art form cultural institution dedicated to children and young people. We have a rich history of partnering with South Australian primary and secondary schools to connect children and young people to the world of creative possibilities as artists, learners and audiences.

Carclew was gifted to the children of South Australia in 1971 as a promise that all children and young people will have access to art, culture and creativity. As a public authority within the Department for Education, Carclew exists to deliver on that promise.

Transform your learning community in 2025 with a professional artist in your school.

Carclew’s longest running program Artists in Schools began in 1981, and since then professional artists have helped learners understand and use the creative process to create new knowledge, skills and understandings about themselves and the world.
As our economy evolves, students entering the workforce will need a skill set that is both broad and versatile, and which fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity and innovation. Artistic and creative play early in life will better equip our children and young people with the tools, knowledge and dispositions they need to address the complex challenges that future generations will face.

We are also in the process of expanding the menu of in-school programs to help schools, educators and young people better connect with the broader arts sector, while maintaining the quality of program that educators expect from Carclew.
Increasing the accessibility of arts experiences for students, regardless of their location or point in their learning journey, provides a line of site for young people to make meaning from their learning, encourage life-long learning and to see creativity in their future.

Bookings are now open at carclew.com.au/in-schools, with subsidies available.
