Ruby’s Story: Turning Learning into Action with ALWS

Ruby – a year 6 Lutheran primary student shares how her school’s involvement with ALWS within their curriculum has influenced her.
“Every year I donate to ALWS. The first time I did this was in year 4 when ALWS came to our school and I was inspired to help.

Each year I get some pocket money from either my birthday or from chores that I do to earn more money. I like to give this to ALWS to give gifts to other children.

From the first time that I heard about it and learnt that I could send a child to school for $25, I thought that this was something I could do.

The first year I gave $50 so that I could send 2 children to school.

This year I raised money from selling my uncle’s eggs. My brother and I walked up and down our neighbourhood streets knocking on doors to sell the eggs. We made $96.

My share was $48. I wanted to donate the whole lot to ALWS.

I just want to help.”
