Governance Corner
Thank you to all those who attended our AGM on the 14th May. Whilst these meetings are necessary as part of our governance requirements, they provide a great snapshot of the year’s achievements. Craig Fielke’s comprehensive report provided a great overview of the many wonderful things that are happening within the region. You’ll notice that the report provided a summary of each area of our strategic intentions. This is a great way of being able to practically measure the performance of an organisation based on its mission, vision and strategies. If you haven’t already adopted this type of approach with your own board, I strongly encourage you to consider it.
I am currently reading a book entitled “Disciplines of a Godly man” by R Kent Hughes. In the introduction he mentions that he is challenged by his wife with a question when he was writing the book: “So what difference does this make in the way we live?” This made me think about not just my own faith walk (how do I show Jesus to the people that are in my orbit in the way that I work, act, react etc.), but also it is a challenge as an organisation – Are the decisions, processes, resources and support making a difference to our learning communities and our future leaders and global citizens? This is the picture and goal I trust we as a board will aspire to over the next 12 months. And it will be measured by the feedback and reports through our board meetings as I have mentioned above.
I will share again an excerpt from our Fee to Flourish introduction:
Free to Flourish is the story for Lutheran schools and early childhood services, grounded in Christian beliefs and values and a catalyst for ongoing improvement and innovation.
Our learning story inspires a deep understanding of who we are and how we are created for relationship with God and all creation. We seek to honour the wisdom of our First Nations People as we grow appreciation of the interconnectedness of all.
Embracing the future with confidence, our learning communities grow learners who are compassionate, purposeful, adventurous, and relational.
We are free to flourish!
Yours in His service
Paul
