Governance Corner
The LESNW board met recently and had Mignon Weckert join us to talk about Compassionate Systems and the work being done throughout our region. It is wonderful hear of the way our learning communities have embraced Compassionate Systems and are realising the positive benefits from it.
At a recent Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) briefing, the topic was Psychosocial Hazards in the workplace and how leaders need to provide a safe work environment. The statistics were alarming in terms of workplace stress, lack of fulfilment and mental health concerns in the workplace. Section 19 of the WHS Act requires; “duty holders to ensure health and safety, so far as is reasonably practicable, by eliminating risks to health and safety. If this is not reasonably practicable, risks must be minimised so far as is reasonably practicable.”
My takeaway from the briefing was that people are looking for a fulfilling work environment that they are valued and engaged with. That there is a genuine care and concern for all employees and stakeholders. And it made me think of how Compassionate Systems is such a great natural and genuine way of providing just this – for both teaching staff and students alike.
It is so exciting that Lutheran Education are providing a point of difference in the education space that is providing a positive environment for our learning communities. I encourage you (if are not already) to contact Mignon and her team to learn more about Compassionate Systems and how it can benefit you and provide an environment for our future leaders where they can prosper and grow in a community that loves and treasures them.
One of the most read pieces of scripture is 1 Corinthian 13 where the Apostle Paul talks about love. A Christlike love. May we strive to love the way Christ loves us, and in turn create an environment around us that reflects this.
Yours in His service
Paul
