LILLC Term 3: Visit to Ngutu College
On 1st September, Leaders in Lutheran Learning Communities (LILLC) were fortunate to visit Ngutu College. Ngutu’s Head of College, Andrew spoke with conviction about the vision that inspired the founding of the school. He shared his desire to create a learning community that lives and learns through culture, rather than simply learning about culture. At the heart of this vision is the philosophy of Reggio Emilia, where children are placed at the centre of the learning journey where creativity serves as the backbone. It was evident that Ngutu is a place that honours child agency- where learners are empowered with genuine choice and voice, and where educators take on the role of facilitators, supporting children to inquire deeply and engage meaningfully with their learning.
During the afternoon sessions, we unpacked our new learnings and wonderings through the lens of Growing Deep: The Lutheran Lens, Capabilities and Free to Flourish using Compassionate Systems tools and practices. This allowed us to consider how the vision at Ngutu connects with our own leadership practice, and how systems thinking can continue to shape the way we lead and nurture our communities of learners.
