Landcare Grants Awarded
Woolworths, in partnership with Landcare Australia, has awarded over 1000 grants to support outdoor learning projects at primary schools and early learning centres across Australia. St Michael’s Lutheran School, Curiosity ELC, Waikerie Lutheran Primary School, Good Shepherd Lutheran College and Maitland Lutheran School are amongst the multitude of LESNW learning communities who have received these grants.
St Michael's students are researching the food composting process, processing food waste and distributing compost in the school garden.
Children at Curiosity are caring for their worm farm, including feeding the worms and using the worm tea to fertilise their newly-established community garden.
Students at Waikerie are designing a nature play space, which sees them researching the types of plants that would best suit the area and then constructing, building and maintaining the space.
Good Shepherd Lutheran College students will have multiple opportunities to benefit from the grant. Those at the St Andrews campus are engaged in an edible garden program that provides a sustainable edible garden suitable to the harsh conditions in the Top End.
Students at Maitland are being empowered to be change-makers by improving their nutritional literacy, food waste awareness and environmental response.
